The US government is shutting down the Economic Indicators Service effective March 1st. What does this website do? It provides a single place to find various reports from the US Census Bureau and the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and is (was) updated regularly. It included a subscription service where you could sign up ot have these reports emailed to you as they were released.
This isn’t the end of the world. I believe that all of the reports the EIS provided are available elsewhere online. However, this will make researching and finding the data more challenging and time consuming. The result will be that less people take the time to educate themselves on the economy. To put it another way, the government appears to be increasing the cost of economic knowledge, at a time when lacking economic knowledge is becoming a lot more costly.
